mStoner, our partner in the Buzzr Education Content Management System, recently highlighted the dramatic performance optimization we’ve done on the platform over the past year. as well as several other features.
Here’s a reprint of the column from COO Bill McLaughlin.
Since 2012, we’ve partnered with Buzzr to offer a simple content management system (CMS) for smaller colleges and universities. In most cases, small schools have limited resources and don’t have web developers on staff.
That doesn’t mean, though, that smaller institutions need to have smaller ambitions.
Our website redesigns based on Buzzr Higher Ed CMS deliver: A tailored web strategy; A modern, mobile-friendly web design; and A Drupal-powered website with a simplified user interface geared toward the non-technical content contributor.
In the last year, in partnership with our Buzzr customers, we’ve made a number of improvements to the platform: We now offer two options for site search: One based on the Drupal Search module and one leveraging Google Site Search. Customers can pick the search tool that best fits their needs. We’ve invested heavily in optimizing site performance.
One improvement includes the implementation of aggressive caching mechanisms on servers hosted at Rackspace. Buzzr-powered pages load significantly faster than those at other higher education websites. We’ve loosened the user interface to allow advanced users the option to work with standard Drupal menu and URL-alias options. Content contributors can’t see these options, so their experience remains as streamlined and simple as possible. Along those lines, we’ve added flexibility within user roles and permissions.
A new middle-tier role can configure widgets and menu settings but does not have administrative rights. There’s never been a better time to check out Buzzr Higher Ed. If you are a small institution with a web team of one, Buzzr Higher Ed deserves serious consideration.—Please feel free to contact me if you have questions: Ed Sussman firstname.lastname@example.org
